Everything you need to know about the 2010
Santa Barbara Triathlon

WHAT

The Santa Barbara Triathlon presented by Montecito Bank & Trust is in its 29th year. This year’s event will attract 2,000 triathletes and thousands of spectators. The event weekend includes a long course on Saturday and two shorter sprint courses on Sunday. While challenging themselves physically in the Pacific Ocean, along scenic country lanes and oceanside roads, spectators enjoy the breathtaking sights of the Channel Islands and Santa Barbara’s cliffs and beaches. A beach festival with music, food and entertainment awaits the triathletes as they cross the finish line. The event is free for the public to attend.

Since the inception of the Santa Barbara Triathlon, philanthropy has been an integral part of the event. This year the official charity will be the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation. The triathlon aims to raise $50,000 for Teddy Bear this year, adding to the more than $400,000 in charitable donations to local nonprofits the Triathlon has made to date.

WHEN

Friday, August 27, 2010 – Sports Expo and Packet Pick-Up
11:30am to 6:00pm – The Santa Barbara Triathlon Sports Expo is a great venue to find the latest in high tech sports gear, sport drinks, motivational clubs, training resources and more. You will have the opportunity to meet athletes and spectators and have a nice lunch on the beach at the East Beach Grill. At the same time Athlete Packet Pick up will be taking place.

Saturday, August 28, 2010 – Long Course
7:00am – The Long Course consists of a 1 mile swim, 34 mile bike and a 10 mile run. The race starts and finishes at East Beach. The swim, bike and run are all out and back courses with the transition area at east beach. The swim parallels the beach in the direction of Sterns Wharf. The bike course makes it way towards CA-192 and follows the highway to the 150 where cyclist’s turnaround and head back to transition. The run is a quick jaunt to Las Positas and back. The long course has entries for Age-Groupers, Relay Teams and a unique category aptly named, Just-For-Fun, for all those who would like to enjoy their Saturday and do just that, have fun.

Sunday, August 29, 2010 – Co-Ed and Women-Only Sprint Course
7:00am - The Co-Ed and Women’s Only Sprint Course both consist of a 500 yard swim, 6 mile bike and 2 mile run. The Sprint Course will begin at 7:00am with the Women’s-Only Sprint Course commencing at approximately 8:15am. Like the long course, all three legs of the race are out-and-backs with the transition area at East Beach. Both courses follow the same routes as the Long Course only with the turnarounds coming sooner to accompany the shorter distances.
